Why converting Word to PDF on iPhone is harder than it should be

Apple's Files app can preview a .docx, but it cannot export it to PDF with the formatting intact. The Microsoft Word app can — but only if you pay for Microsoft 365. Pages can open a .docx and export to PDF, but it re-interprets the layout through Apple's own rendering engine, and tables, columns and embedded fonts often come out wrong.

Cloud converters are an option, but they require uploading the file to a remote server — slow on mobile data, and a privacy concern for anything sensitive. Most of them also cap file sizes at 10–25 MB on free tiers.
